Portfolio Allocation Help From EasyAllocator.com

After reading the post about EasyAllocator on MyMoneyBlog, I went and tried it out. Asset allocation is often a difficult topic for a couple of reasons. First, I have money in many different places, so that makes it somewhat more difficult to figure out my total asset allocation. The second reason is because in my accounts, you have to put a certain amount of money in, in order to not be charged a fee. This has somewhat thrown my personal allocation off since I opted to put the same amount into my total US stock market index fund and my international index fund.

Now for a little background on the site. EasyAllocator was created by yobria, one of the Vanguard Diehards, and it "allows you to choose which asset classes you would like to include--from simple total market portfolios to multi-asset slice and dice. It also allows you to select a risk level. It then allocates assets to various taxable and tax-deferred accounts in the most tax-efficient way. It makes suggestions for specific funds in each class. It then calculates estimated returns and income from future withdrawals."

The site promises efficient investing is a three step process:
  1. Asset Allocation - Choosing the right types of investments, such as stocks, bonds, and real estate.
  2. Asset Location - Putting the right assets in the right types of investment accounts.
  3. Mutual Fund Selection - Mutual funds are the key to effective investing, but only a small number of the 20,000+ existing funds meet our criteria for cost, diversification, and tax efficiency.
Get these steps right and you will realize your financial dreams. EasyAllocator.com will walk you through each step using an academic approach based on decades of research.

I have a suggested allocation that it tells me is optimal, I will need to look at it a little more and compare it to my existing allocation. The site is definitely worth a look, try it out. You will have to sign-up to get a userid, but you don't have to put in any info.
